“Wait, I think,” something clicked in Eir’s brain, and she opened the text somewhere around two-thirds of the way through. “Silas, can you look up the holocron chapter of the Studies in Force and Technology text?” She glanced at Taime and Esla, a hint of her old fire coming to her eyes, “can you guys pull up some schematics from the archives? I think I have an idea.”

"Alright." Silas replied as he pulled out his datapad, and pulled up his copy of that text. Flipping to the page Eir asked for.

"This one?"

As the youngsters put their heads together and cross-referenced notes and texts, corporal Raz made herself useful by leaving again and coming back after a little while with hot cocoa to drink. Clipse on the other hand watched with pensive pain on her face, offering answers where she could.

It seemed like they would have to focus on a few things at once, in a ritual of sort as it did not seem to be an easy thing to dislodge Clipse's anchor to the device. But together, it was possible...

---

OOC: Four rolls will completely release Clipse, and you must do one each (don't worry about rolling past day-change, due to troublesome schedules this week :) ). You may roll these in any order as they are more or less happening simultaneously.

Advantages can be used to boost the next roll (1 for 1 in this scenario), while Threats puts strain on the others (2 for 1 as Setbacks). A failed roll with 2 or more Failures upgrades the difficulty of the next roll by one.

Channeler: The one who must keep the unified powers under control. Discipline (Willpower) at Hard difficulty. The roller may add their Force to this roll and use Light side pips as Success or Advantage, player's choice.

Leader: The one who directs the ritual. Lore (Intellect) at Hard difficulty. This roll gains one Boost from your successful Lore roll earlier.

Breaker: The one who takes apart the device itself. Mechanics (Intellect) at Hard difficulty. The roller may add their Force to this roll and use Light side pips as Success or Advantage, player's choice.

Guide: The one who remains in spiritual connection with Clipse to guide her to rejoin with the Force once more. A Sense Force Power check. In case of a Dark Side result, the player has the option to make a Discipline (Willpower) check at Average difficulty to finish the ritual anyway but at a great cost to Clipse. Or you may choose to use Destiny to flip as normal.

Gathering her thoughts, Eir outlined what they needed to do. It would take all of them, but she was convinced that if a holocron could be built, it could also be unbuilt. Parts of the unique device were strange, but she hoped that the inner workings would be similar enough that Silas could navigate them without problem. From Taime and Esla, she asked that they use their focus on keeping Clipse stable while Silas worked, if her energy destabilised during the process, Eir worried that they may cause the woman further pain, or even cause the process to fail.

When her explanations were done, she put a tiny hand in Silas’ arm (she couldn’t really reach his shoulder), “I’ll be right here the whole time,” she promised.

"Mmmm." Silas nodded at Eir's statement but he was already hard at work. The design of the object was foreign to say the least, and he had never once tried to do anything like this before.

It strained his mind in ways he was quite comfortable with, but at last he succeeded.

The breakening. Hard mechanics, add a force dice. Let's get the girly out of jail.: 2eA+1eP+3eD+1eF 1 advantage, 1 Dark Side

Spending a destiny to flip 1 dark pip to light, and use it for a success. I take 1 strain and 1 conflict.

1 success 1 advantage total.

What a strange turn of events this turned out to be, especially upon hearing that the object was Sith or Proto-Sith in origin. This woman was seemingly a product of their twisted experiments or quest for power, as she understood. It was still puzzling how she ended up here. However, they should do the right thing to give some semblance of hope, albeit Esla wasn't too sure what may actually happen with their tamper.

She focused on the others as they got to work and channelled to keep everyone's energy directed at the task at hand.

Taime was able to connect to the spirit of Clipse, guiding her and reassuring her that it would be alright, so that she would not be clouded by fear.

Everything would be alright.

It took them over an hour, with the careful channeling of the Force, the accurate deconstruction of the holocron, and the soothing of the spirit... but it was working.

Image

Clipse gasped as she felt herself detaching from the painful anchor that had held her for so long. "You chose to free me, a former enemy, instead of keeping me locked to use my power and knowledge..." she said in a breathy voice, still pained but also with relief and a long-forgotten sensation of freedom.

"... I feel the call of the Force," she turned her head as if hearing a distant sound, and then looked back to the group of four before her. "I feel I should do more for you, in return. For what you've done for me that no one else has." Clipse breathed sharply. "There is no death, only the Force. Know that I will answer your call through the Force if you ever feel lost - and I will try to guide you."

The womans torment seemed to be at an end, after two thousand or more years. Silas wasn't sure if he would ever call for her, lured by the dark as she was. Or even how to call her now that he thought if it. But still he was pleased.

"Go to the force, Clipse." He replied simply. "You need not worry about doing anything for us."

Esla gave the woman a quiet heartfelt nod as she approached the freedom that she desired. Her mind couldn't help but think back on her Vergence and giving the Sith a second chance when seeking redemption. If she indeed could return to the Force then that was something she was glad to help her achieve. Honoured, if anything, to accomplish such a feat. She needed no reward or gratitude in return.

Taime had difficulty speaking as he listened to this person's story. It shook him to his core, so he sat and listened to the others, his mind whirling as he strove to keep Clipse stable.

Her words filled him with so much emotion. He knew what it was like to long for something like that. And her words on death soothed something inside of him. He could not be absent or away from his family. They were always connected by the Force, even if it was difficult to feel. He was with them even now.

"Your words have given me more than you can know. Home awaits you Clipse. I am glad we were able to help."

Eir watched, feeling drained by the experience, still troubled. There’d been no hesitation at Clipse’s request for freedom, that she had turned from the Light, that she’d been exiled never figured into it, Eir had simply acted. When Clipse was free, the half-arkanian looked at the remains of the device, “anything salvageable?”

"Hmmm?" Silas hadn't really been paying attention to that, still he supposed it didn't hurt too look. In a way this item even deconstructed was a treasure grove of knowledge after all. "I'll check."

Without the Force powering the prototype "holocron", it was no longer quite the treasure it had been earlier, but it would surely be of interest for the Order to study. A lot of its construction was not something that could easily be comprehended in a short amount of time.

"I think it will be something of interest to the order." Silas murmured after a few moments. "There is alot of intresting tech here, but it's all pretty weird to me." He looked around the area. Now that Clipse was gone, it all seemed a bit empty.

"I hope she rests well." He murmured after a few moments. "As much pain as she looked to be in, she deserves it."

With Clipse freed, Eir felt marginally less worried about the device, and some of the tension eased out of her. "I can't imagine being in that kind of pain all the time."

"Yeah," Silas replied with a shake of his. "The fact that it trapped her spirit for millenia too." He shook his head. "I wondered if she was killed as part of it's creation, or if she was already dying when her master trapped her inside." Silas hadn't been able to ask that question, she had seemed to volunteer though, so it was likely the first.

"I don't think we should really be calling her for just that." Silas replied, a small frown making it's way onto his lips. "Anyways, she could likely use a bit of a break right now."

He smiled. "Still it was nice to see, it seemed she got a better appreciation of the Jedi code right there at the end."

Esla too felt the room got a little emptier without Clipse's presence. Despite being trapped in an object, Clipse was still a real person. It felt a bit sad in some ways but it didn't seem appropriate to mourn her entirely. Whether or not she was truly dead before, she had moved on to a better place. Esla did spare a moment of silence before they moved on with their findings. She supposed the Masters would like something to learn from this experience at the very least.

"I don't know if calling her would be so easy either...but I think such questions are probably irrelevant. I don't know why we would think about doing the same thing to anyone." She frowned faintly.
