She tilted her head up, smiling. "Would a Jedi master be biased?"

Still smiling, she took a sip of her tea. "But, perhaps more to the point, if we did not know each other, you might still failure, but you would not fear disappointing me either, would you?"

[Eir]

“True,” she answered sullenly, though she was plenty afraid of embarrassing herself in Corvin’s eyes. He would just look at her in silent disappointment and that would probably be the worst. And that Sith boy would laugh at her, that would be pretty bad, too.

Sipping her tea, Eir wrapped her little hands around the cup and let the warmth seep into her fingers. “Master Chriala,” she said abruptly, “what if there’s something wrong with me?”

[Chriala Hulis]

Chriala smiled, but Eir could see the concerned edge to it. "What do you mean, my dear?"

[Eir]

Swallowing hard, “Lord Destrus knew my parents,” she thought that much was true, but sometimes her memories of his words blurred with those of her vision. “What if only the Dark side answers my call because that’s,” still unsure of the Sith’s exact role in the matter, “how he made me to be?”

[Chriala Hulis]

Chriala considered a moment, and then shook her head. "I do not think such a thing is possible, Eir. The Force is life. To be cut off from it..." Her frown deepened, and she shook her head again. "It should not be possible."

She tilted her head. "He knew your parents?"

[Eir]

“Not cut off,” the girl tried to explain, “but more, I dunno? if his device channels the Dark Side, then maybe I do too, just in person form; maybe it will always be harder for me to reach the Light.” Eir sipped her tea, “I think he knew my parents,” was it the real Destrus, or my vision that said he was limited by ‘conventional’ means of reproduction? pairing people off like designer dogs? “at least, I don’t think my DNA came from anonymous donors.” Even if he was combining egg and sperm cells under a microscope, they had to come from somewhere.

[Chriala Hulis]

"I see." There was a pause as Chriala sipped her tea.

Finally, she spoke again. "Biology is not destiny. Or, perhaps I should say, not all of destiny." Her lips quirked, then smoothed. "Even True Sith, the species, that is, can find balance in the Force. I am confident that it is the same for you."

[Eir]

Eir crinkled her nose thoughtfully, Kerren had switched sides after all. She had a lot to think about. She finished her tea, “thank you, Master Chriala, I should get some sleep now.”

[Chriala Hulis]

Master Chriala smiled. "Well, then. Finish your cup of tea. It will soothe you." She took a sip of her own tea.

"I hope we can speak again soon, Eir."

[Eir]

Eir placed her empty cup back down and slid off the chair, landing softly on her toes. “Thank you, Master Chriala.” She bowed her head politely and made her way to the door.

"Sleep well, dear." Chriala smiled after her.
