[Day 8 - ME] Kerren is Sharing

[Byron Mik]

Byron had made plans to check in with Kerren, despite his grunting and surly attitude the Sith was growing on him, probably because he seemed to be of similar age to Byron, though he never actually asked. Plus talking to the once Sith reminded him in a small way of chatting with other Sith that were much better to look at.

So that was that.

[Kerren Sek]

Kerren had found a spot to look out at the snow outside, thickly bundled up in clothing even if he was indoors. The cold did seem to bother him.

“Kerren how are you liking Illum?” he asked as he took a seat.

“You can say it sucks here because honestly it kind of does but eh… I am sure we can find some trouble to get into and liven things up. Maybe someone will need rescuing from a wampa… are there even wampas on Illum?”

[Kerren Sek]

"I don't really care for the cold. The humid heat of Dromund Kaas, or the dry heat of Korriban is much more to my liking," he grumbled. Ziost was never his favorite place to visit, and this place was even colder than that iceball. And Ziost at least had civilization, heating, and insulation.

"I wouldn't know. Can anything really live out there?"

[Byron Mik]

“I am sure life finds a way if we can survive here hardier stuff can eke out a living out there, we should check it out get the lay of the land tomorrow,” he responded.

“I know you hate the cold but that has to be better than sitting here and doing nothing right, unless you got a better idea.”

[Kerren Sek]

Kerren grunted. "I should be meditating more. It's not something new to me as such, but the Jedi masters want me to try to find more peace when I meditate... it's not exactly how we were taught on Korriban."

[Byron Mik]

“The masters always want us to find more Peace, don’t let it stress you. For me I find myself at my most balanced when someone is trying to kill me, or take a swing at me, or just threatening an innocent. I find it sharpens my thoughts, gives me clarity in the moment.”

“Plus there is no single way to meditate… well maybe there is but I ama firm believer that if you can set your mind to peace by jumping off buildings then that is your happy place. Not that I ever jumped off buildings but I am just saying, sitting in the lotus for hours is not my idea of a good time,” Byron responded.

[Kerren Sek]

He smirked a little. "That sounds more like something I can relate to. Combat is often so much easier to keep your focus in," he agreed. "Maybe this planet has some beasts for us to kill. That would be a good way to pass the time, and there don't seem to be bleeding heart conservationists stopping us from such sport either here."

[Byron Mik]

Well that was a little more… vicious than the Masters probably intended but he opted for a compromise and said, “Maybe we can inquire if there are any invasive species that need to be curtailed and we can dispatch those for the betterment of the local troops. Killing… or removal but with a justifiable purpose.”

[Kerren Sek]

He didn't really find it to be vicious personally, but nodded to Byron's suggestion. "You don't hunt for sport in the Republic?"

[Byron Mik]

“Oh yeah plenty do, maybe even a few Jedi… maybe… but in general Jedi find all life to be sacred and we try to preserve it whenever possible even in the wilds. We don’t interfere in natural processes though predators can hunt all day and prey can run… but hunting for the sport of it is frowned upon,” he said honestly.

“Well hunting to kill… I guess if we went hunting to tag animals for study that would be fine. In general Jedi seek to preserve life, especially sentient life.”

[Kerren Sek]

"Hmm..." he scowled a little, but it also seemed to be a natural resting face for him. "A strange way to look at things. Are we not the top predators?"

[Byron Mik]

“I suppose but being a Jedi is not about being at the top in fact we are servants of the Republic. We serve others,” he said brightly.

“A Jedi is dangerous but we don’t set out to be. It’s not our way to dominate a niche. We seek to either be seamless so as to not disturb the ecology or bring balance to that ecology.”

[Kerren Sek]

He grunted with some displeasure. It was all a lot to adjust to so quickly. At least he wasn't some place like Coruscant while trying to wrap his head around it. "Seems difficult. Does it happen often that Jedi stray from that kind of thinking?"

[Byron Mik]

“I mean probably but usually the ones that tend to roam far from Coruscant I would bet. You don’t have to be everything all at once, Jedi are people… well some of them are people… some I am still wondering about,” he joked.

“The big thing is we help people not dominate them or control them. Anger is fine, people get angry, the difference is that we know to control and it and focus that anger in a positive direction not just lash out I guess. It’s complicated but also pretty simple.”

[Kerren Sek]

"Righ, right... there is no emotion, there is peace," he repeated the phrase with a sigh. "Very different from how we're taught, where we're taught to channel our anger - to make us stronger. Same with all our emotions, really."

Kerren smirked vaguely. "Some of your teachers seem less human than others."

[Byron Mik]

“You noticed huh, I figure you should stick around Master Orgus Din, he is… well he is fair and firm. Also gets around, seems like he has seen it all. The rest are decent… and if you just like to gawk at pretty things there is Knight Kho, sure she would appreciate it,: he joked.

“She is good people though. Any of the students given you any trouble?”

[Kerren Sek]

"For someone of her kind, it's not bad to look at," he agreed, probably with some extra haughtiness to not admit it too much. "Not yet, no... so far so good. Lots of questions, but I suppose I should have been prepared for that."

[Byron Mik]

“Questions are good, that allows you to find common ground and connect with the other students. As long as they treat you as a fellow student and not an adversary if they do I will know the reason why. The crew is head strong here but we all trust each other and now you are part of the crew, so we look out for you too,” Byron replied.

“This is a team effort even if our trials are solo; we thrive together or die alone. Remember a Jedi is strong alone, but we are at our strongest when we work together.”

[Kerren Sek]

He nodded slowly, assuming his resting Sith face again. "It's all a lot to get used to. Not everyone trusts easily, even if they won't admit it... and the Sith don't really preach unity and being strong together."
