The Senate District (also called the Legislative District, Government District or Government Center) on Coruscant is located on the planet's equator, and is the de facto capital of Galactic City.

The Senate District borders the Financial and Sah'c Districts, and is in close proximity to the industrial district known as The Works. The Jedi Temple is also close by. The architectural style of the district varies greatly, with those in the lower levels sporting more ancient designs, and the styles become newer and more modern as higher up you get to the upper levels. Residents of the upper levels tend to be senators and other important members of the government, meaning that they usually have the funds to renovate and update their estates to follow the current fashions.

At its heart of the District is the Senate Building that houses the Grand Convocation Chamber which has been the center of various galactic governments since for over 20,000 years.

In the area surrounding the Senate Building are many upscale boutiques that sell formal attire of a great variety, fresh flowers, and jewelry, as well as well-reputed establishements that serve food, drink, and entertainment.

The Senate Building, also known as the Senate Rotunda, Senate Tower, Convocation Center, or Senate Dome, is located in the center of the Senate District, and has been the heart of the Republic Senate for thousands of years. Outside it sports many lovely gardens with decorative pools and fountains that are open to visitors, and there are daily guided tours from morning to evening.

Its interior sports several offices, meeting rooms, and private lounges for the most powerful people in the galaxy, but the most famous part of the building is the Grand Convocation Chamber where the senate gathers when it is in session. This room is familiar to most in the Republic as it is always seen on the Holo whenever there are news related to the senate.

While the building has its share of beauty on the outside, thanks to the gardens and decorative statues and monuments, it is also fairly sturdy and packed with defensive measures. The designers claimed that any weapon capable of destroying the dome would also have to be powerful enough to destroy the entire planet, making the facility invulnerable against sabotage or orbital bombardment.



Supreme Chancellor Dorian Janarus
First among equals in the Senate is the position of Supreme Chancellor, the figurative head of the Republic. It is not an executive branch and in practice the position does not actually hold more power but they do have the ability to make some executive decisions, hold special sessions of the Senate, and use their position to get around usually protocol. They can also be removed with a vote of No Confidence at any time.

The current Supreme Chancellor is Dorian Janarus a well respected career politician. He is a bit out of touch with the common man but he has the full support of the Republic and has been a guiding hand in these troubled times. He is on good terms with the Jedi Council and often relies on them for aiding with internal matters which does create friction with the Republic Military who believe the Supreme Chancellor should be doing more to counter the Imperial threat.
