Fish #2 (D6, MM, Bazaar)

#1 Postby Mir » Thu Jan 31, 2019 2:57 am

Knowing that they would be heading to the Acablas later that day, Mir decided that he need a hearty breakfast. So, clad in his lighter robes and wearing his BeyRans on his nose he waded into the streets of the Dewbright. Figuring the general direction of the bazaar Mir walked briskly, his head spinning around as he tried to see everything around him. The tall buildings, the exotic aliens, the strange shops selling curiosities - everything seemed to demand his attention. Yet another, more primal force overcame his curiosity. Feeling ravenous Mir walked bit faster, trying to sniff out if he could find a street vendor selling fish.

One of the vendors had on a cheap playback device of some sort. With broadcasts interrupted by the solar activity, it seemed to be playing tapes from yesterday.

"The delegation from the Ogon Trade Company is meeting with colony leaders today. They are expected to be discussing additional charitable giving, and the hopes of a bright future..."

Mir's ears twitched at that. He made a note to inform the master's of his earlier experiences with the trade company.

Esla was seen meandering the streets of the bazaar, perhaps having the same thing in mind. They were scheduled to another test and it promised to be a long one. She didn't know if she was fully prepared for it but perhaps some local non-bug-related breakfast will ease her concerns? An empty stomach could only be filled with anxiety.

Her walk eventually crossed paths with Mir, the cat who acquainted her with the term of ganking. There was a moment she contemplated walking on and leave Mir to his own devices. However, she decided to be sociable and walked over with a shy wave at his direction.

"Ooh, Esla!" Mir waved his paw at his fellow student, his ears perking as he saw her. "Good morning." Glaning up toward the sky he shrugged. "I mean the sun never sets but it is still a morning? Are you hungry too?" The bubbly farghul seemed to have way too much energy.

"Good morning," she said in return with a nod. "It's morning somewhere? I heard there might actually be some darkness tonight."

Darkness meaning the eclipse, not exactly the test that they would be undertaking later.

She nodded once more. "I was actually thinking of finding some breakfast. The dorm food wasn't exciting and I think we might actually be leaving soon."

"Thank the forebears that the dorm has good curtains." he huffed, tapping his shades with his paw. "Food? If you don't mind fish tag along. I found a good fishy-place the other day with Eir. They had long queue and everything." Mir moved his paws far apart. "But it was worth it. Really tasty. Eir liked it too." he nodded few times as if to convince her of this fact.

Esla pursed her lip and looked reluctant for a moment at the mention of fish, recalling her trip to the aquarium and the encounter with the angler-like fish. Also, what was good for Eir wasn't necessarily good for her. They were clearly two different people.

However, perhaps she should try to be more outgoing and adventurous. She nodded in agreement to the idea after much deliberation, clearly. "Sure, let's try that."

"Do you like...fish?" She asked curiously for conversation. It might have been a silly question but she wasn't assuming either just he was a cat-like person.

"Fishy." Mir nodded, blinking his eyes slowlyto offer her a smile. "Oh yes. Fishy are so good." Mir's ears flopped as he nodded vigorously. "Fish would be often the only food we'd find on our own." Food they did not have to work for. A food they could catch and eat when they could. But during the long winters of Doloran the scrap lakes froze and fishing became impossible. During those times the slave-scrappers had no option but to head out and forage the scrap fjell s for booty they hoped they could trade for food.

"But what's your favorite food?" Mir asked Esla as they passed a vendor selling shades to the passerby's. "Shades, shady shades, dark shades, shady dark shades, very shady shades! Shades for all, for two-three-four eyes!" A dug standing on his arms waved his goods on his legs. His words seemed to ring true. Indeed his little desk housed a variety of shades of which some were meant for species with more than two eyes.

"Sorry, fishy," she apologized as she corrected herself. Was that a local term around her or just one of Mir's? She wasn't too sure but went along with it.

"Fishy are good," she readily agreed with him, recalling that they fishy did save her from a meal of bugs on the first night where they arrived at the planet. "Uhm...I think I like bread. Or anything with bread. I guess sweet bread like cakes are okay but not too often. I'm fine with just plain bread or with butter or jam. How do you like your fishy?"

She paused to give a glance at the shades being offered for sale, recalling Mir wore something like and wondering if he could use another few pairs.

"Fishy-fishy." Mir nodded twice, his ears flopping even as the cries of the dug got drowned by the chatter around them. A large, four armed alien with a long trunk stood before them, haggling with a creature with more eyes than limbs. The second alien reeked like rotten eggs for some reason. Mir wrinkled his nose, huffing to expel the repugnant smell. "Eugh..." he fanned himself with his paw. "Maan."

"Bread. Bread is good. Fishy is good too. Both are good." the farghul rambled as he tiptoed for a moment to see over an alien with green fur and two long eye stalks on its head. "It was somewhere here I'm sure."

"I like my fishy fried over fire. That's the way I had it back on Doloran. Or fried with a lantern if you couldn't find anything to burn." he explained. "Or if you had to hide. Lantern doesn't smell like fire does."

Seeing as they has no reason to stick around the shade vendor and his client, Esla quickly turned her nose and distanced herself from the two as they continued to meander around the bazaar to find this fishy-fishy place that promised to be great.

"Fried fishy sounds pretty good rigut now. Maybe, they'll have a fishy sandwich at the place too?" She glanced about. "I'm surprised there isn't a fish place everywhere here."

They took a turn at the next crossroads and Mir's ears perked. "Ohh there. The queue!" he waved his paw in a rather excited manner. Indeed there was a long queue, composed of humanoids and other sentient creatures, all bubbling while they waited for their turn. Mir and Esla took their place, standing behind a bubby toydarian which was joking with tall yarkora that was rubbing his belly in anticipation.

"We shall see. Last time they only had fish and clams onna stick. But the fish was delish, yes-yes." he shook his head apologetically. "A lot of sea here for fish." Mir blinked. "I guess they could make bread from reeds and weeds?"

As Esla followed Mir to the queue while shooting some cautious glances at the persons in front of them and then ultimately the persons behind them as the found themselves sandwiched in the ever-changing line. It made her a bit wary but at least she was with familiar company. "I guess you did mention earlier that you waited a while with Eir...If there are this many people, it must be good. Now that I think about it...I don't think I've had bread ever since I've arrived here."

She veered the conversation away from food as they waited, plenty of time for that later. "Uhm...how are you finding the trial so far?"

"I am not much of bread farhul myself." Mir admitted. "The little I had was always stale. Well, except on Coruscant. But even there I tend to stick to the soups. I like my food warm." he explained, blinking his eyes happily in anticipation. At one point, the yarkora standing in front of the burst into laughter, causing Mir to slat his ears against his skill. Apparently the toydarian had told a good joke.

"Uh, I don't know. I mean there was the thing with sabers, which went fine. Then the exam which, uh, less than fine." his ears drooped as he recalled the exam. "That was bit hard. But after that, umm. I mean, we were talking to the aliens the other day? Was that also part of the trials? I don't really know. I just know that the whole thing today at the Vergerence.. that place is a big deal. So I guess after that we'll know more. Has anyone told you what we can expect today?"

At the burst of laughter, Esla ducked her head for a moment, as if she was dodging something from their direction. It didn't seem like it was directed at them, however. "Maybe you haven't found the right bread for you. There are a lot of different types of bread, on worlds with more land where they don't have to fly in their materials. They should be soft, warm and often fluffy on the insides. The best bread is probably bread out of the oven."

"I think it was..." She said with a slight frown, something she didn't do spectacularly in despite being allegedly a consular in training. "I think Jedi are expected to do a lot of things to keep the peace and talking to people is one of them. I heard a few things that we should be expecting a Vergence but apparently, it's very personal. Byron seems to know a lot."

"Mhmm, no ovens on Doloran. At least any the slaves could use." he shook his head. "Not that we'd have had time to bake. Or the stuff to bake with." A small sigh escaped his lips as he turned his gaze away from Esla. "I feel I've missed so much. Turns out there's more to life than just surviving."

"Byron says one thing and does another." Mir scoffed. "Master Murah said that he's wrong." Without bothering to detail why Byron was wrong, turned away from Elsa to stand on his toes. "Maan, there's still quite the queue. I'm hungry." Flopping down, Mir turned his attention back to the consular in training. "I guess there's that. I've never been really good talker. I think. People just tend to believe me regardless of what I say." he added with a wry smile. "Did Byron say anything more? Than that it's personal?"

"Oooh..." Esla said on an awkward note. Here she thought that ovens were rather basic on any world. She wasn't exactly talking about jewelled-incrusted swords or fancy steads. Then, she supposed that there were truly worlds far less fortunate than she was typically used to. "At least you can experience that now, it's good to be among the Jedi, yes?"

"She did?" She blinked at this revelation, not so much concerned about the length of the line as Mir was. Then again, she wasn't as hungry as he was. "I didn't know that, it sounds like he knows what he's talking about and the others don't seem to mind him very much. He seems to talk to Sith pretty easily."

"Well, the ones at the cafeteria back at Coruscant are kinda ok, I think? Still not my favorite thing." Mir admitted, sounding a little embarrassed. He clearly hadn't considered that bread could be a thing! "So back on, uh, wherever you were from, folks eat a lot of bread? Do you ever put things in or on the bread?"

"She did." Mir nodded for the umpteenth time, his nose bobbing up and down. "He shouldn't have wanted to punch the idiot. You are not supposed to hurt people to get your point across." he tried to convey what Murah had told him, though he wasn't quite sure how well he managed that. "And that you really shouldn't kill people. Though, she did say that some people do kill people if they need to."

Esla nodded soundly at that. "Most people get by with bread, it's in a lot of our foods and meal. If you're a lord or a lady, you probably have more options than just bread. You can put a lot of things in bread, butter, sauces and fruit spread too. Really good bread you can eat plainly, however."

"When did he want to punch someone?" She blinked on a bemused note. He always seemed calm and rational around her. Perhaps she hadn't been paying enough attention. "That sounds like a really unstable person if he has such thoughts. If that's the case, I'm surprised they didn't take him aside more."
