"Of course, Master," Byron replied and got back to the work of delivering soup.

"Aye, ma'am." Mir bobbed his head to the master before once more returning to the task at paw. There were hungry people to be fed and since the lesson seemed to over for the time being.

"I sure hope there is..." the proto-communist farghul murmured. "But for these folks, the time is running out."

Byron added, "What are we whispering about?"

"Life." Mir replied nonchalantly.

"What about it?" he asked as he filled another bowl.

Byron sighed inwardly at the children and then said, "Well if life has anything to do with helping people, then you're doing it now. There is always more that can be one but it takes everyone to do their part." He filledd another bowl and added, "Helping here alleviates some of the suffering but there will always be more. Coruscant... the galaxy is an unforgiving place but as long as there are people like us willing to help then there is still light in the darkness."
"That's how I see it. Time is never up until you give up. Plus everyone likes a nice hot bowl of soup."

Eir rolled her eyes at Byron's proselytising and put on a fake smile, she'd just been trying to reassure the fargul, in a round about way.

Byron sighed at the girl, "Really? I am just trying to reassure our fellow trainee that the Jedi are trying to help and that we are making a difference but fine, be petulant."
He shrugged and continued handing out the soup with a smile.

Mir's ears flattened and he sighed. Turning to Byron he spoke his mind. "Yes, we are doing something. I am just thinking we ought to do more. If you are happy with handing soup, hand all the soup you want. It's not like that's harming anyone."

“You realize I am not telling you to stop, in fact I agree with you. A Jedi should always be dedicated to alleviating suffering in the world but it takes everyone to do it and we can’t do it by force or simply forcing others to do what we want, that is the Sith way,” he responded.
He glanced at Eir and added, “I do what the Force bids me to do, I am not sure what makes you both so confrontational but we are all here to help people. Mir, I admire your desire to help and do more and no matter the outcome of the trials there are plenty of opportunities for you to do lots of good here and elsewhere in the galaxy.”

"I'm not trying to be confrontational, I'm trying to serve soup," she had made a point of not getting into the discussion at all, before and after Master Barkash had suggested they drop it, and was genuinely confused as to how she was the one being confrontational.

"Ah, what the Force bids you to, yes." Mir nodded. "How do you know what it bids you to do? Do you have chats with it?" Mir's ears perked as he was rather curious. "I wish I could have better idea of what I should do."
"I didn't say we should force anyone, did I?" the young farghul asked, baring his teeth.

Re: Soup for the soul (D1, MA) [Open]
“I was just heading off that line of thought Mir, it’s not a judgment or an admonishment.”
He poured more soup and chuckled at Eir and said, “Well as you say, you do you, Eir.”
He glanced at Mir and said, “It isn’t like it talks to me, I trust my feelings as the Masters are fond of saying, but personally it comes from what I see. The world is filled with signs that guide us. I feel a tugging at the edge of my vision and I follow that whim.”
“The Force to me is like gravity, it is tugs at you and pulls you towards other objects or people. Sometimes that pull results in a collision, an event that could be shocking or violent. Other times one simply glides by simply observing what is happening… others you nestle into a gentle orbit.”
He poured more soup and explained, “So that is how the Force speaks to me through others and the situations I find myself in. Even now through your words of introspection it is guiding me to better reflect on my own thoughts of alleviating suffering and misery. Plus help the people and in turn they are helping me by keeping me humble and remembering that my own situation could be quite different if the Force did not intervene.”

"You said that we cannot force people as if I didn't know that." Mir replied, his teeth still bare. "Good you trust yourself to do good. I wish I could." he replied tad bitterly. "So, the Force pulled you also here to lecture me that we cannot do more?"

"Children." There was a brief air of authority to her voice, though it was not stern. "Perhaps we can continue the discussion some other day, and focus on what we can do now, yes?"

Re: Soup for the soul (D1, MA) [Open]
As much as he agreed, Byron had a point to make even if the audience was not listening.
“I literally just said we could do more, maybe open your ears. I just said we need to strive for that,” he looked at the youth.
“Maybe listen to what I am saying and not what you want to hear. I am not attacking your thought process. If someone says something negative they may not mean you were going to do it, sometimes we say it not only for the benefit of the one we are speaking to but to remind ourselves as well.”
“If I see a youngling and I tell them don’t point that training saber at yourself it isn’t because they were going to do it but to reinforce what we both should already know,” he said kindly. He had to wonder if he was this… angsty at that age, probably but hard to see it in hindsight.
“The Force brought me here to learn from you, and hopefully in turn you learn from me.”
Then he nodded at the Master and continued his work.
