Taime Jorel wrote:Taime decided to follow Eir's route and powered up another little droid. His style required using the force to move others into range and he wasn't sure enough about his control to try it on other person quite yet. But a droid would be perfect.

As it powered up, he waited for it to fire. And fire away it did. Perhaps he was rusty or having the masters watch was throwing him off. But he just barely managed to turn so he took the shot in the shoulder instead of the face.

Orgus, nearby, grunted. "Seems like you anticipated it. It was just a question of moving the right way."

He gave Taime a nod. "Try to relax a bit. It's easier to let the Force guide you if you do. You'll feel better, too, which is a bonus."

"Ouch!" Tanya yelped as a bolt stung her hand. She shook it briefly, but the look of determination on her face only grew stronger. "I think I can get it next time!" She flashed Eir a quick smile before returning her attention to the remote, lips tight with the intensity of her concentration.

"That was really close," I think you will get it next time." Outwardly, she encouraged Tanya gently, but inside she was cringing, shown up by this girl, and somehow I'm supposed to be ready for the trials.

Zizzy Roosh wrote:"Oh. Why yes, thank you Ares." Zizzy began with a basic Shii-Cho guard stance. "What would you suggest? I was going to try the helmet but I think I need to start with the footwork?"

All of her reading suggested that footwork was essential. It was probably why she had been so horrible at copying Thy Yulani.

"Well, if you're interested in the basics, I can show you the starter Shii-Cho stance." He stood, one foot in front of the other, his body sideways. "Present a smaller target, this way. You can hold the blade with two hands, if you'd lke." She seemed slight, at least to his eyes.

"I am sure you'd manage with a helmet, your senses are sharp, but you should get the fundamentals right first. A basic series of strikes should look like this." He started some sharp chopping motions, cutting through a horde of imaginary sith mooks.

She watched him carefully and did her best to follow his instructions. "Thank you Ares. Okay. So. Two-handed grip and..." Her strikes were a bit too wild, perhaps it was the two-handed approach. The imaginary Sith would block her strikes easily, but her footwork wasn't all bad. If she was fighting beside a friend she would be setting them up nicely.

"Hmm, I don't think I'm doing it right."

On the lower difficulty setting, the movement of the droid was easier to track. Tanya's practice saber was doing a better job of following it on this second attempt, too.

A sudden shift, the energy beam coming across her body. The tiny bolt from the droid was intercepted, fizzling harmlessly.

Tanya shut off her practice saber, grinning. "I did it! I did it that time!" Her eyes were full of excitement as she looked at Eir.

Off to the side, Orgus glanced over, then back to whatever he was doing.

“You sure did,” the half-Arkanian cheered. Tanya’s excitement was helping drown out the nasty little voice that needled at Eir over her embarrassment.

The girl went on, talking quickly. "I think I could see it, too, where it was going to be, not just where it was. It wasn't just luck. I mean, there's no such thing as luck, at least that's what the masters always say, at least some of them. But I could actually tell, or at least I had a feeling."

She slowed, taking a deep breath. After a moment, though, she gave Eir another smile. "Thank you, senior student." She tilted her head, looking thoughtful. "Did you want to take turns, maybe? Or... something? Maybe we could guard each other? Can you do that? Like, back to back?"

Byron continued his work with the younglings giving each one pointers and guidance as needed. He wanted them to learn but also have fun and enjoy themselves. They were young still and there was, in his mind, time yet to really drive home the seriousness of what could go wrong.

That feeling, that’s what was missing. In all of the chaos, trying to hear the Force was like trying to hear a whisper in a raging storm. Smiling, “let’s get another remote and we can practice defending together.”

"Okay!" Tanya carefully turned off her practice saber. Her training remotewent inactive as she did.

Moving over to the racks, she carefully examined the (identical) training remotes. Finally, she reached out, taking one.

Walking back, she offered it to Eir. "This one is yours." She said with a decisive nod.

Ares circled around her. "It's a good start. Try one handed perhaps?" He asked mildly, while noddding to himself. "Practice helps usually."

He listens closely, glad that he wasn't being shamed at least for his failure. Nodding along with Orgus's words, he squared up and tried again, attempting to relax and tap into the Force. And this time, his nerves didn't get in the way.

Zizzy went back to the more familiar grip and tried again. This time she focused more deeply on her breathing and footwork. "I certainly need it. Maybe you'd like to practice with me more regularly?"

"Sure, I'd be happy to." He smiled encouragingly to her. "We can do some practice in the mornings, perhaps? And..." He moved closer to adjust her grip, touching her hip and rotating it so she's standing more sideways. "Erm.. nothing."

"Sure, mornings would be good Ares." She allowed him to help her adjust her stance. "And what?"

Well, technically it was a little better.

Ares stood by and watched... and then noticed how close he was standing and stepped back. "Erm... maybe you can help me as well?" He observed her stance, and suddenly pushed her elbow. "A saber cuts through everything, but a shallow wound is still a shallow wound. Feel free to put strength in it. Most materials won't even slow it down."

He sighed. "You're... good at the meditating stuff, right? Or at least better than me."

"Well that's definitely something I can show you how to do. Happy to help." She flashed him a smile before returning her focus to the training saber and making a few experimental slashes and cuts. "Hmm. Well my putting strength into it isn't quite the same as yours. But I take your point."

"There you go." Orgus nodded. "You got it."

He studied Taime for a few moments, hands on his hips. "Just focus on the deflecting for a bit. Soresu may be about waiting for an opening, but sometimes that takes a lot of waiting. It's good for cultivating patience. You don't get the occasional satisfaction of hitting the training remote."

"Awesome," Eir answered, turning the remote on and launching it into the air. "You ready?" she grinned to Tanya, extending her own training saber, and dropping into a defensive stance. The small devices buzzed around the pair as they waited, back to back, for the unpredictable shots.

"Ready!" Tanya said, a mixture of excitement and determination in her high voice. She activated her training saber once more. The remote responded, activating again.

Blat! A shot came, and was deflected. "I'm doing it, I'm doing it! You-whoops! Sorry!" Tanya giggled. A quick turn and she briefly tangled her legs with Eir's, but managed to sort them out without tripping either of them.
