[Ares Pax]

Ares was silent for an unusually long time as he pondered.

"Probably...both? I cannot seperate my feelings, and I do not wish to lie." He smiled, though it wasn't full of happiness. "My feelings fuel my skills, as long as they are under control. As for my duty...she could be a great Jedi. And she is a good person. I...I want to help." He looked at his own hands. "Some days I want revenge too, but...that won't bring them back. I want to honor their memories instead, their legacy." He let out a breath again.

"Some days."

The older Jedi Master looked at him for a long time in silence, his expression unreadable.

"I do not approve of this, as I think Jedi should be above such attachements, but I will grant you the opportunity to attempt to set her on the right path."

Master's heart stopped and started again. He was sure Jaric's heart just grew to 3 times its size.

Ares frowned in thought....could the dark side turn him female? "Is that possible?"

Had Jaric known what Ares was thinking he probably would've given the lad a slap in the head. "That you may fall to the dark side, and eventually join the Sith? Not impossible, but I trust the chance is highly unlikely. As a practicioner of Juyo, we always tread a dangerous line and we must be cautious..."

He sighed softly. "It is such a quiet thing, to fall. It's not a big sudden event, or something obvious most of the time. It is the little slips and falls that eventually bring you there - by giving it ground and allowing it to take root in your heart."

Ares' mind took very weird turns and twists. "I will be careful Master. I..." He let out a breath. "The discipline required feels extreem sometime." He recalled his fight in his vision. "But it is worth it."

He glanced at his Master, who seemed to disapprove of all life sometimes. "Master...may I ask about your..trial?"

[Jaric Kaedan]

"My trial at the vergence?" he raised an eyebrow, asking to clarifiy if that is what Ares meant.

[Ares Pax]

"Yes...I assume you had a similar trial with a vision? Or is that wrong?" IT was clear that Ares was nervous when asking about Jaric's life.

[Jaric Kaedan]

His expression softened a little bit as he became somewhat more nostalgic in his eyes. "... I had a vision about my home. And the family I left behind. I was much older than you when I began my training. In fact, most thought I was too old to begin training as I was twelve when the Jedi found me."

He shrugged. "In my vision, I saw my family suffering from the attacks of the Sith. Their home burned, as well as their crops and livestock. Everything was destroyed. For me, it was a lesson to learn to control my anger and hatred toward the Sith, and also letting go of my attachements. They were my family, yes, but their lives were not worth more than the countless others also suffering at the hands of the Sith."

Ares listened, listened deeper than he ever have. He never knew much about his master, and he was glad for this opening up. "Thank you Master, for your trust." He fell silent again. "And for your wisdom. That must have been a tough lesson." He recalled his. "I..I was close to falling over. Who knows, I may have. But your training...it saved me. I have always been on the edge, but you helped me stay there, to dance there, supported by the light, facing down the darkness."

"You give me too much credit, Ares," Jaric gave the young man a brief smile. "It doesn't matter what a teacher provides if the student is not capable of understanding the lessons. It takes both, to learn."
