[D2 LA] Common Sense

#1 Postby Ares Pax » Fri Jan 18, 2019 10:54 pm

Ares let out a breath, and slowly knocked on the door to Farrisa's office. The day has been eventful, in more ways than one, and he wanted her opinion on... quite a few things actually.

He stood there nervously, the happenings of the day running through his mind. His meeting with Ayura, exploration with Knight Zhell, his fight against Master Orgus and Knight Farissa....

He was lost in thought as he waited.

Eventually, the door opened up, with Farissa on the other side to recieve her visitor. "Oh, young Ares. This is a surprise," she mused. "Come on?"

"Knight Farissa. I was hoping to talk to you about some topics... the force, and Shien." He smiled nervously. "And I wish to thank you for your help today. It was exhilarating testing my mettle against you."

"Of course, of course. You did very well! I think Master Jaric wants to give you something special for passing the test with such flying colors too, so you should seek him out later. He's indisposed at the moment though." She gave a charming smile. "But do come in and take a seat."

Her office wasn't that big, but it was a temporary thing for now. At least there was a comfy chair to sit in for Ares. "Jaric has trained you well, Ares," she complimented as she took a seat on the other side of the desk.

"I will certainly do so, Knight Farissa." He took the seat, a bit tense. "Thank you. I try and meet his expectations." He smiled nervously. "It was a difficult decision whether to duel him or meet my skill against your and Master Orgus' defense."

"I can understand that, though you probably have had opportunities to duel him before?" Farissa gave him a reassuring wink.

"So," she shifted comfortably into her chair into a relaxed position, "what can I do for you, Ares?"

"Yes, but not in a trial setting before." He let out a breath. "Multiple topics, actually. Today I accompanied Knight Corvin around the planet, and instructed us to extend our senses..." He looked down at his feet. "I... failed miserably." He took a deep breath. "It is a... skill, that you are talented at, if I heard correctly?"

"Mhm, yes, it does so happen to be one of my strongest talents with the Force. Corvin has some skill with it too, but I don't think he has it to the extent that I do," she admitted easily. "Were you thinking of just in general, or to use it for defense as well? It takes a bit more effort though."

Ares thought for a long time. "In general, for starters. It is tempting to think of defense.. dueling is my focal area, yet at the same time... perhaps I should try and generalize a bit." He smiled in humor. "if I am ambushed and slain before I can ignite my saber, it would be a terrible end after all."

"Very true. And it was your trip with Corvin today that made you think of this?" she asked with an amused tone.

"Corvin should take students out on trips more often then," she chuckled warmly. "No need to be so bashful. There is no shame in acknowledging one's weaknesses and seeking to improve."

"We'll have lots of time to work on such training during our trip though. A ship is also a good place to start, as there is not too much to distract your senses either. At least that's how I was taught."

Ares nodded. "I see. Thank you for your help. It's..." he sighed. "I am a bit ashamed, at missing this weakness so far. Truthfully, my lightsaber studies occupied my attention so far. Juyo is a... demanding form."

"All forms are demanding, Ares, though for different reasons. Juyo requires a lot of mental discipline, to avoid courting dangerous sides of yourself too much," she said with a touch of curiosity to what else was on his mind. "Is it tomorrow's test that worries you, or is there something else?"

Ares sighed. "Tomorrow's trial as well, but well. I hope I won't fail, but I don't expect to get such an outstanding result again." He sighed. "May I ask why you chose to focus on Shien, Knight Farissa? Out of curiosity."

"An interesting question," Farissa leaned back in her seat with a smile.

"I'm not particularly strong physically, and I just don't have the mindset for Niman or the interest in the crazy stunts of Ataru," she chuckled, "I could probably have gone for Makashi but... eh, too archaic for my tastes. I find Shien has great adaptability, and it serves me well in the field. You could say that while Corvin and I are pretty opposites there - he prefers nature, I prefer the urban."

Ares nodded."Thank you." He smiled as he recalled Vaala's flipping. "Ataru does require a certain... energy." He chuckled. "Makashi is a good and graceful form, though I feel what it can offer is similar to what Shii-Cho and Juyo does. Different, yet all of them are useful for dueling, though Makashi certainly stands out." He sighed. "I am thinking of perhaps studying some of the other forms as well... Juyo as been wonderfully useful, but it does have its weak areas."

"As do they all. There is no perfect Form, at least not as far as I know," she chuckled. "If you find one, let me know."

Judging by her look, she suspected there might be more there. "Makashi certainly has its advantages... not one I would expect of you, Ares? Such formalized and elegant moves."

Ares nodded alongside and smiled. "If I do, I'll let you know, for sure." He chuckled. "No, not Makashi. It would make me a better duelist, but I am already going to want to delve into Juyo, and I want something more... rounded. Perhaps something against blasters."

"Well, Shien certainly has advantages against that..." she mused. "Some aspects of the other side of Form V, Djem So, might be of more interest to you. The Way of the Krayt Dragon. It would play to your strengths, and help you shore up your defenses."
