Ares led the way to a secluded spot on the beach for Zizzy.
"How about here? You have your training saber, right?"

"Sure do Ares. Wouldn't be much of a training session if I didn't."
Zizzy removed the saber from her belt and turned it on. Fwoom.
"You know, I can see how people might get annoyed by all this sand. If they weren't prepared for it. I mean, it does get... Most places. Good job these are robust." She gave a few experiential swings and settled into a stance. "How was your day yesterday?"

"Well, you would get training in enduring beatings. That is a kind of trainig." He smiled, then turned serious. "I twas fine... Silas and I met a sith earlier in the day. He was similarly nice to Dracolily in the evening." He turned his own saber on, emitting the same sound.
"You're pretty determined about this, aren't you?"

She nodded. "I'm pretty determined about things in general Ares. I'm not exactly a warrior like most of our group seem to be, but the lightsaber is the symbol of the Jedi. I should be able to use one effectively if I ever have to." She stretched out a few muscles. "Plus it's a good workout and good for centering oneself in the force."

"Yeah, makes sense." He stood in front of her, one leg behind the other, presenting a smaller target. "Remember what we discussed back on Corusccant? On movement and stance?"

"Yes. For example, you're presenting a smaller target by standing side on." Stance training and footwork was extremely important. "The more you train the more natural it becomes, so you don't have to think about it when you really need it."
She knew intellectually how it all worked. She just needed to put the hours in.

Ares suddenly poked forward with his saber. "Correct." He stopped short though.
"So, want to start then?"

"Sure. What's your first lesson of the day?" She seemed keen to treat this like a proper lesson and stood awaiting his instruction.

"First off, try and hit me. You practiced some, but hte lightsaber has its own feel, and you need to get used to it." He waited for her to attack.
"After, we can focus on some defensive techniques, and some bsaic attack patterns."

The force was with Zizzy this morning. Or maybe it was beginner's luck? Either way, she focused on what she was doing, like in the fight with Black Sun.
Her strike was fast, accurate, and she added a twist that knocked Ares' weapon out off his hand. "How's that?"

"Not bad, not bad at all." He smiled, and kicked up his training saber and gripped it stylishly. Unfortunately, while he got style points, he lost form points as his attack was wide, overestimating Zizzy's height as the sabre swooshed harmlessly above her weapon.

Zizzy stepped in and tapped Ares on the side with a light, quick strike. She then resumed a defensive posture, anticipating that the next attack would be much more accurate. "I've still got a long way to go. But it really helps to get some practice with the top student."
