"I gotcha." Zanja pulled her red cloak more snugly around herself as she slid out of the speeder. "Kriff, it's bleeding cold. This is a warm day?"

The sun glancing brightly off the ice and snow did lift her spirits a bit as she moved to help with the beacon, though.

Byron did his best but this beacon was in a poor state and required more time than he would have liked to get it fixed. Buffeted by ice cold gales that cut through them, he got it done but his fingers were numb and his teeth chattered as he entered the speeder.

OOC: 1 strain suffered, total of 4. Failure increase strain by 3, so 7 strain. Boost die to the next Repair check.

With the second beacon repaired, a new transmission came thorough.

"Knight Sunlian reporting. I've triangulated the last known location of J... Lietenant Kaeden. She's not here."

A brief pause, then the message continued. "There are some caves nearby. I'm going to check them out. I will not fail."

Byron shivered as he spoke to the group, "S... s... sounds like she knew the missing s-s-soldier."

"Sounds like it." Silas replied with a frown. It was cold in the vehicle and he didn't much like it. "Should we look into it?" Of course it wasnt why they were out here

"Yeah, b-better question isss..." Zanja's teeth chattered as she stomped toward the speeder, trying to stamp some life back into her icy feet, "where are they n-now?" She huffed out a white cloud of breath, clearly relieved to have reached the door of the vehicle. "Anybody called in missing last night? From the base, or the temple?"

Back in the cockpit, she rubbed her hands briskly. "Next one might be closer to the caves. We c'n do both, maybe. But if they've been out since before 2300 hours, even if it was only yesterday..." Her tattooed face showed obvious worry.

Once everyone was ready and someone else was in the driver's seat, Zanja called up the map again. "Nav program wants us to go around the west side of this plateau, but with the ice melting it'll be faster to go east..."

The young crew would once again get to the next beacon in crack time, making up some of the speed they had lost from the slow repairs.

It seemed as if it was Silas's turn back out so rising to his feet he headed out the door.

Eir jumped out of the speeder into the snow to tackle the third beacon. It looked like his back-to-back trips had taken a toll on Byron, shoulda let me swap, she thought, as it seemed her time in the speeder had warmed her up enough to hold out against the worst of it. Of course, she still had to actually work on the damn thing still.

That proved more difficult than anticipated and her fingers quickly went numb, despite the gloves, as she fiddled with the delicate tools she used to tune up the beacon.

Third beacon:

"Knight Sunlian. The signal's strong. She's in there. She's alive. I'm going in after her. Hang in there, Jessa." There was obvious excitement in the tone.

From here, you can pick up a signal. But it's very weak, and flickers in and out. Without the beacons being worked on, you never would have heard it.

You expect that if you repair one more beacon, you will be able to find the exact location of the signal.

Silas was Cold... Very cold. Almost too cold to worry abotu what the lady was thinking.

Zanja was getting tired, and even with a canteen of hot caf stashed in the speeder, it felt like a long time now since she'd last been anywhere near warm. But it was becoming clear someone was out there, in trouble. "I'm starting to wonder if Corvin had somethin' stronger than caf in his flask," she muttered as Eir and Silas got back into the vehicle.

"Anyway, we can save some time if we pop out of the canyon here, cut across the upland for a couple minutes. I think the wind is calm enough."

“You need to thaw out,” the half-arkanian told Silas, “ready Byron?” She hopped out into the snow once more, the wind cutting through the already-chilled girl. The repairs were even more difficult this time, her hands had warmed up just enough to start hurting when she had to head out again, quickly becoming stiff and slow.

Byron was there to assist. The length of the repairs chilled him but otherwise he was fine.

With the last beacon repaired, the students are able to trace the signal to the caves.

In the caves, the students find a very old and rusty looking transmitter transmitter locked on repeat on the ground in a beam of sunlight. It looks as though the recent thaw freed it from the ice. Next to it is a lightsaber.

"I found her. But she's been trapped by ice. She's so close, but I can't get her free. Can't even touch her. I can see she sees me, and I know she's not worried."

"She won't last much longer. There's only one thing I can do."

There was a brief pause. "Goodbye, Jessa."

There was the sudden snap-hiss of an igniting saber, then the sound of falling rocks and ice...

The transmission ended.

Byron knelt down and picked up the lightsaber and said, “Well that was a bit melancholy… we should get this to the Masters maybe they can identify this Jedi Knight.”

Byron looked around to see if he could notice anything of worth.

OOC: Rolled Perception to notice anything. GM can apply difficulty.

"So they went together then?" Silas asked as much as stated as he looked over the area. It was a rather odd scene all things considered and he found himself looking at the transmitter. Why repeat like this?

[Eir]

Eir frowned, lips pressed together, “she must have locked it to repeat so it would be found when the thaw came.” Gently picking up the transmitter, Eir looked to see if she could stop it from looping without breaking the battered device.

[Byron Mik]

Byron nodded at their responses, it was not like he had better explanations. He did find the scene unsettling that someone would let their attachments drive them to essentially suicide. This was a cautionary tale that hit closer to his own life than he would have liked. It also gave him perspective on the dangers of such attachments.

“Maybe she hoped that someone would find them and restore them? Just seems odd to leave the device running if you are going to just resign oneself to death. I don’t see any bodies,” he finished.
