[D1 EE] Cramming

[Ares Pax]

Ares was sitting in the Archives, poring over some holoslates, his eyes tearing up from the blue screen. He was curious what was the failure rate of younglings transitioning to padawans, but the user interface was slow and far from user friendly.

"Come on... come on!" He said loudly as he was punching in some buttons.

[Mir]

Mir was shuffling through the archives, clad in his robes. The shuffling was rather literal with the heavy cloth dragging against the floor. He paused occasionally to check the section he was in before wobbling onward. The problem with archives, Mir had decided, was that they had way too much stuff in them. After a while he heard sounds and sneaked to investigate, his ears perked as he peeked around the corner.

[Ares Pax]

Mir could hear some rapid tapping of the screen. "Gah!" The snarl soon subsided, as Ares finally found something. "Wait, does that mean ten younglings passed or failed? What does confirmed mean here?" Ares was now speaking loudly, his temper slowly rising, before letting out a sigh.

[Mir]

"Gooood evening." Mir greeted. "Whatcha up to?" he stepped out of the shadows, pulling his cowl down. "You know the archivists would kick you out if they caught you yelling at screen like that."

[Ares Pax]

Ares whirled quickly, but settled down. "Oh, hi. Yeah, I guess I shouldn't." He waved at the catman. "Just looking up some data, but this system is just plain terrible. Slow and useless. No wonder the archivists are so old, I just feel myself aging sitting here."

[Mir]

"Well. There's a reason why they have people here. Why not ask them?" Mir asked, tilting his head to the side.

[Ares Pax]

Ares looked away, and mumbled something.

"I'm embarrassed to ask."

[Mir]

"Eh. What do you want to know? Why your boxers are clammy in morning? I thought that Master Murash explained that... few years ago? Pretty sure you were there too." He had no idea what else could be embarrassing.

[Ares Pax]

Ares glared at him. "No. Not that." He sighed. "I just... want to know how many fail the trials. What my chances are."

[Mir]

"Well. You could ask that too. Less embarrassing than the sticky undies, no?"

[Ares Pax]

"I..." he sighed. "It doesn't feel right. What proper Jedi worries about becoming a Jedi?"

[Mir]

"Every jedi. Well, not every jedi. But everyone who wanted to become jedi?" Mir tilted his head to the side. "I think this state of not knowing is akin to the chaos the masters talk about."

[Ares Pax]

"...you think so?" Ares seemed to relax. "I just...my parents were Jedi."

[Mir]

"Well, and you'll become a jedi too." Mir nodded, all too sure of everything, really.

[Ares Pax]

"...hopefully." He sighed, then straightened. "I'm a bit worried about the test of knowledge. I'm not too smart." He glanced up at Mir. "What's your biggest worry from the tests?"

[Mir]

"No fear." he nodded. "Well, that bit is maybe easier said than done." Mir added, his ears slanting to the side. "There are other tests too, I think. I don't think flunking one test means much. I hope."

"My fear? Uhh... I guess knowledge as well.I haven't had much time to study."

[Ares Pax]

Ares nodded. "Yeah... maybe we should look something up, I guess." He tried to smile hopefully, but it was difficult with his ever present scowl. He sighed. "How are you feeling at the Order, by the way? Everything alright?"

[Mir]

"That was the plan." Mir nodded, squinting his eyes. "Problem. There's just too much of it. History. Why do people bother recording what happened hundred years ago. I cannot remember what I had as breakfast three days ago." the farghul interjected. "There's just too much to swallow."

"Uh? Can't complain? There's food, clothing and roof over my head. I also get to learn things. Cool things." Mir nodded vigorously, his ears flopping.

Ares chuckled. "True… my parents used to say that the lessons of the past taught you the wisdom of the future." He sighed. "Still have no idea what that means. And yeah. The order is cool."

[Mir]

"Well that's all fine. There are just too. many. lessons." he waved his paw at the archives. "How anyone can remember any of this is beyond me. I gotta paw it to the historians. They are a smart bunch."
