Lightsabers 101 (Training Hall,LA, OPEN)

[Orgus Din]

As a contrast to the more formal event from earlier, Master Orgus' training session had a decidedly casual air to it. He was dressed in his usual combination of robes and tunic, suitable for motion, or just strolling about.

He stood by the racks of equipment. Training lightsabers, whose hilts would be extended into energy beams that would stun or bruise rather than cut. Perfectly balanced sticks, for use with basic sparring. And even training droids and eye-covering helmets, for those who wanted to work on deflecting blaster fire.

None of these were yet in use, though. Master Orgus waited, arms folded across his chest, for the right moment to begin. A small crowd of younglings, decidedly younger than any of the students who'd just begun their trial, had gathered. Some of them watched with wide eyes; Master Orgus gave them a kind smile in return.

"Hey, hey, younglings! It's big brother Byron, how you guys doing!" the young Jedi in training said with a smile.

[Eir]

Returning from the soup kitchen, Eir entered the training hall and shed her robe, folding it up neatly and stowing it in a cubby. She took the utility pouches off her belt, too, leaving just the training saber clipped there. She wasn’t always going to have the luxury of taking off the voluminous robe in a fight, but she didn’t feel like dealing with it today.

Ares was also in the area, as always, training. He eyed the younglings, and smiled at them encouragingly.

It was mildly effective. He was not a friendly and cozy guy like Byron. "Hey you. Here for training?"

“Me… train? I am here to play beating dummy, I am a lost cause,” he joked.

“But if I can help the younglings by showing them what not to do, then Jedi number Four has done his part.”

[Hatoful GM]

"Hey, hey, younglings! It's big brother Byron, how you guys doing!" the young Jedi in training said with a smile.

That won a minor chorus of cheers from some of the assembly. One of them, a small blue twi'lek boy stepped forward.

"Byron! Are we going to get to hit you with sticks today?" Excitement was obvious in the boy's voice.

[Ares Pax]

"Ah, Jedi Dummy number four." He answered with a smile. He waved at Eir in the meanwhile. "Want to help out? We can hold Byron the Menace down." He said, trying to force some cheerfulness into his demeanor.

[Zizzy Roosh]

"Watch out little blue." Zizzy had arrived and leaned in to give the young twilek a loud whisper. "He'll fill you full of noodles..."

With a wink at Byron she strolled across the floor, nodding to her fellow trainees and offering a small smile to the Master.

"Just go easy on me, I still have bruises," Byron said rubbing his side.

[Hatoful GM]

The twi'lek boy made a face. "Noodles? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww..." The word went on for rather a long time, shaking his head.

In the way of kids, it wasn't entirely clear whether he actually didn't like noodles, or was just playacting.

“Do we get to hit him with sticks too? or is it one of those you must be shorter than this,” she held her hand up a little higher than the tallest of the gathered younglings, “to play deals?”

Eir nodded to the mysterious Zizzy as she drifted by.

[Orgus Din]

Glancing around, Orgus gave a nod. "That's good enough. Let's go ahead and get started." His deep voice carried easily. "Everyone grab a training saber if you don't already have one. Or a stick, if you plan to do any sparring, or just want to hit Byron with sticks." He was deadpan, but probably joking. Probably.

He waited while everyone grabbed an appropriate tool. Someone who taught young students might worry about giving them something to fiddle with while the demonstration began, but these were Jedi students, of course. Besides, this was a casual class; quiet talking was certainly permitted.

Orgus himself had a training saber, held casually in his hand. "I'm going to be showing you some of the basics of using the lightsaber. Most of this will be based on Form Three, Soresu. Who can tell me what Soresu is also sometimes called?" He folded his arms, waiting.

[Zizzy Roosh]

"Ooh, ooh! Perseverance form!" Her hand had shot up but the words spilled out before she could wait for a nod.

[O'vala Aeser]

"Wasn't it the Way of the Rancor? Or some other big beast thing!"

[Zizzy Roosh]

"No wait, Resilience form!" Her tendrils swirled. "I always get those mixed up."

[Eir]

Eir leaned over and whispered “the Way of the Mynock,” to one of the younglings, nodding for them to give the answer to Master Din.

[O'vala Aeser]

O'vala tensed up and then shouted, "Mynock thing! Way of the Mynock!" She then lowered her eyes. What the heck is a mynock?

Eir leaned over and whispered “the Way of the Mynock,” to one of the younglings, nodding for them to give the answer to Master Din.

"What's a Mynock?" The young human girl asked back, not whispering in the least.

[Ares Pax]

Ares stood and smiled. He recalled being so young... not so happy though. Still, the kids deserved their happiness. He stood closer to one, leaning down and slightly adjusting his form. "Hold it higher a bit. The saber has no real weight, unlike a vibrosword, so you can move it quicker and easier."

[Eir]

“What's a Mynock?” The young human girl asked back, not whispering in the least.

“Ooh, well,” Eir’s glowing eyes opened wide, “they’re big, ugly, leathery things with wings and no face. Instead of a face they just have a big mouth with lots and lots of tendrils,” she held her hands up to her face and wiggled her fingers, leaning towards the girl and making exaggerated slurping sounds.
