Byron Mik wrote:Byron nodded and approached a group of younglings and said, “Alright little Jedi, time to show me what you have learned since the last time and Yilo no going for the shins this time. Effective but I like my shins. Remember stand tall, both hands on the weapon, keep your footing solid.”

“Yeah just like that Teebu, okay… no… Gon hold it from the other end, stop messing around this could save your friend’s life one day.”

He smiled at another, “Good anticipate the strike, let the Force guide your hands. Remember the goal is to save energy; don’t want to get tired before the enemy does. Now you are getting it, keep at it.”

Byron instructed and demonstrated as needed, despite his self deprecation it was clear he had taken the basics of Soresu to heart and was well versed in the basics of the practice.

Byron had the prompt attention of the younglings. Perhaps too much of their attention. Fortunately, Gon managed to flip his training saber around before it extended and thumped him in the stomach.

The students showed impressive discipline as they practiced on each other, moving slowly. "Can we see your stance, big brother Byron?" One of them asked.

Eir wrote:Eir grabbed one of the remotes and activated it, but knowing that the girl was watching so closely made the skin between her shoulder blades prickle, and she choked, missing the remote's shot, but managing to get out of the way before she got zapped.

"Uh, well, not like that," she grimaced.

Smiling, Orgus made his way over.

"Well, it looked fine to me. Right up until the part that you got shot." The girl giggled at that.

He gave Eir an encouraging nod. "What do you think went wrong?"

Zizzy looked around for someone to train with. Hearing Ares's question she shook her head. "No, no more than the absolute basics. I could point you at some books about it though!" She seemed quite enthusiastic about that.

Watching big brother Byron brought a smile but Zizzy realised she needed to get in the right frame of mind for this. Remembering Master Din's words from the previous day she looked for a blast helmet in her size.

“Of course, now see how I keep my feet spread, about shoulder length but stay light. Don’t settle in you need to be able to give and take ground with every movement. Mobility is key, not like with Ataru, mind you,” he replied.

“But still have to be ready to move, now your grip is up to you but I prefer both hands on the lightsaber for better control and leverage. Remember you will be focusing on defense but never neglect your strikes. Pick your moments and assess the enemy. Meaning watch them, learn where they are weakest and then end their threat.”

“Of course you can also just hit their shins,” he said glancing at that youngling and then added, “Now… just watch.” He demonstrated a series of defensive motions against a training aid with the training weapon and ended with a strike that disabled the dummy.

“Anticipate, stay mobile, and assess your opponent,” he finished.

The bit where I didn't deflect, obviously, Eir's expression was wry as she composed an acceptable answer. "I allowed myself to be distracted, Master Din."

Ares joined in, as his murder of younglings seem to have joined Byron's larger khalasar of students.

"Books can be useful, but practice makes perfect." Force, I sound as corny as Master Din. "Can I help you?"

"Oh. Why yes, thank you Ares." Zizzy began with a basic Shii-Cho guard stance. "What would you suggest? I was going to try the helmet but I think I need to start with the footwork?"

All of her reading suggested that footwork was essential. It was probably why she had been so horrible at copying Thy Yulani.

Orgus nodded. "In some ways, that's even more common with Jedi, since we not only see and hear the blaster bolts, but sense them. An extra variable to confuse."

A pause, and another nod. "But you're doing fine. Carry on. I'm sure Tanya here would like to see more." The girl nodded firmly.

After some brief enthusiastic discussion, the younglings began trying to apply that to each other. There was a bit of chuckling here and there, but they did seem to be taking the training seriously. "Ouch!" One exclaimed, hopping away briefly, rubbing at his shin.

Still, there were improvements to be made, here and there. One was clearly overextending. Another was lunging as soon as an opening would appear; his opponent was quickly learning, on the other hand, baiting strikes from the larger student.

Composing herself, Eir turned to Tanya, "let's try that again, shall we?"

This time was even worse, the remote searing a painful shot across on of the girl's ears, which turned red from a combination of pain and embarrassment. "Learn from my fail, Tanya, learn from my fail," she sulked.

Noticing Eir deomstrating the grace of failure and seeing her look slightly dejected the older student decided to try and make her feel better after giving them all corrections where to improve he made sure to gather the group around for another display to show them the benefits of a proper stance.

He set the training dummy to a little program he had cooked up for his early training so he knew the routine and then said to those gathered, “Now remember what I said, you need to have a good stance and good footwork.”

“So watch closely!”

The droid came at him and he parried and an dodged and then it did something unexpected it swept the leg and Byron played along with it beautifully allowing himself to be caught up and flipped up in the air for the perfect practice fall of his life… but the acting was too good and he crashed to thr ground harder then expect scraping his knee against the ground sharply.

That would sting for a while.

He laughed it off with a grimace and said, “Remember expected the unexpected, younglings. Just because we.. fall.. does not mean we have lost, not giving up is a victory all it’s own.”

Master Orgus had moved on. Probably. He was still within earshot, and he might have cast a glance back.

Tanya giggled again. "Actually, I think I see. You were moving how it was going to move, right? Before it did? But maybe it was just too fast? Does that sound right, senior student?"

(using your advantage to give Tanya a bit of insight; let me know if you want to do something else with it!)

The children laughed. The training dummy beeped. It seemed everyone was having a good time.

Master Orgus was nearby, watching, a curious expression on his face. After a moment, he smiled. "A good lesson, Jedi Number Four. Both for the study of Soresu, and for other things."

"Ummmmmmmm..." Tanya chewed her lip. "Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybeeeeeeeeeeeeee..." Perhaps stretching out the words was her method of stalling.

After another moment or two of chewing, she leaned forward, stretching up (a little) towards Eir. "Does it hurt if you miss? It looks like it hurts."

The girl considered this for a few moments.

Finally, she nodded firmly. "Okay." She said. Turning towards the droid, she lifted her training saber, waiting. "Can you start it for me?"

Taime decided to follow Eir's route and powered up another little droid. His style required using the force to move others into range and he wasn't sure enough about his control to try it on other person quite yet. But a droid would be perfect.

As it powered up, he waited for it to fire. And fire away it did. Perhaps he was rusty or having the masters watch was throwing him off. But he just barely managed to turn so he took the shot in the shoulder instead of the face.

The girl tracked the motion of the remote, her training saber trailing along behind it. And sometimes in front of it, as she tried to imitate its movements.

"Ouch!" Tanya yelped as a bolt stung her hand. She shook it briefly, but the look of determination on her face only grew stronger. "I think I can get it next time!" She flashed Eir a quick smile before returning her attention to the remote, lips tight with the intensity of her concentration.
