Cat on the roof (D0 Night)

[Mir]

"Either you are free or you are not. That is all or nothing." he swiped his paw to the side to indicate his stance. "Mopping floors for food is pretty good deal." Well, it might have not been the best deal. But getting free edumication on top of that? There were way worse deals out there. "What's a crop heiress? A rich farmer?" Mir asked, ears twitching in confusion. His eyes widened a little. "I know... knew a lot of folks not treated like people. To them that was all they ever knew. We'd consider ourselves lucky if we didn't get flogged. So, that makes everyone there..." he pointed at the city. "Krifing lucky."

"Us too. We are extra-kriffing lucky." he patted his chest. "With Force and stuff." He'd have reached to feel what Zanja felt but it was D0 and in the past so rolling was faux-pas.

[Zanja]

"Corps. You know, corporations. Big industrial businesses." Zanja rolled her orange-gold eyes. "I can't believe I'm about to say this, but you need to get out more, my friend. Not getting clobbered isn't lucky. It's just slightly less unlucky. Don't let those slaving bastards mess up your perspective for the rest of your life." She frowned, a bit pugnaciously.

"You got to be able to see the shades of gray, or you'll miss stuff."

[Mir]

"Oooh corporation. For a moment I thought you were talking about corpses." Mir looked a tad confused. "Eh. I like it here. It's warm. That's a thing. And I don't really have the coin to go out." There wasn't much to do without coin. "Well, we did count it lucky. Not as lucky as getting extra rations, but about there." he waddled his paw in the air. "We got fed most of the time."

"Eh. Mom always taught me to be happy with what I have." he patted his robes ones more. "She tried to be clever and get more. Now she's dead."

[Zanja]

"Kriff, there's more to life than being warm. I uh, I'm sorry about your mom. But wanting more isn't wrong." It was weird how Mir made Zanja feel so worldly sometimes, even though their backgrounds weren't really that different. That was a good lesson in how critical small details could be, she supposed. "After the Trials are over and we're back on Coruscant, I gotta show you around this planetary district some more. You don't need money just to leave the Temple."

[Mir]

"Dunno. After being cold for way too long it's pretty nice." Mir squinted his eyes to offer Zanja a smile. Well, sort of. "Eh. Heroes who want more than they are due meet Smert Bonewhisker sooner than they'd hope. That is always how the stories go. The hero does something great, the ancestors reward him, then he or she gets too cocky and too curious and soon they have Bonewhisker's on their tail. And you can't outrun her." the farghul grimaced. "So I'd rather not try."

"I've been to the markets. The city too. But I don't like how the city smells." he wriggled his nose in distaste. "The air's much nicer here."

[Zanja]

"Who's spoiled now?" Zanja teased, smirking. "Maybe they'll take us off-planet somewhere with fewer people for the Trials, though. It'd be a change. Test our, uh, wilderness skills or something."

Zanja had thought of herself as a city kid before being brought to Coruscant, but the Republic's greatest ecumenopolis made the biggest city on her homeworld look like a country village by comparison. Coruscant had much better air quality--planetwide weather control saw to that--but the fact there was almost nowhere to go at any hour of the day where you could turn around without bumping into somebody could be a bit much at times.

[Mir]

Mir hissed, his ears slanted back. "You keep your opinions to yourself, tauntaun. You know nothing." He crouched and shuffled away from her, hus tail puffed beneath his cloak.

[Zanja]

"And you know everything, right, furball?" Zanja growled snappishly, stung. "Whatever. Then we'll all await your wisdom about hiding under a blanket from old Bonewhisker in the trials tomorrow." She rolled her eyes and made a show of looking back out at the cityscape.

[Mir]

"I know more than you do." Mir kept himself crouched. "You never bad to watch people getting killed because they could not work hard enough did you." His words were as scathing as the small pluffy would-be-jedi could manage. "You were never dragged around by your collar." A paw moved to his neck. "You were never sold."

[Zanja]

"Nobody ever sold me, not on paper," Zanja said, looking over her shoulder at Mir for a moment. Then she went back to scowling out the window. "As for the rest of that stuff, don't assume what you don't know. It's going to get you in trouble sometime."

[Mir]

Mir scowled at Zanja, his eyes wide open. His tail was still all puffed up beneath his robes. "I'll run and hide. I'm pretty good with that." With that he huffed and turned his back to her, his pluffed-up tail visible beneath his cloak. "May the Force be with you. Good night." Then he began to walk away, making a point to literally stomp his way out of the thread.

"Pfft." Zanja huffed softly and crossed her arms, not turning back as Mir stomped out. "'Night, furball."

Indignation--The Trials start tomorrow! How can he be such a child?!--bubbled together with chagrin, part of her mind realizing she shouldn't have lost her temper either. Because I'm a Jedi. Otherwise... Zanja gritted her teeth. She stared out at Coruscant's nightscape for quite a while before she felt tired enough to go back to the dormitory and sleep.
