Zanja double-checked that her hood and long hair were at least somewhat obscuring her face from the camera. Yeah, I'm supposed to be back here. Believe it.

Before moving past, she leaned against the wall for a few beats (in what she hoped was a badly angled spot for the security cam) and listened carefully. If you're gonna make some noise, Reg, now would be the time. Or maybe she'd be able to hear that roulette wheel Zizzy had mentioned. Probably too much to hope Reg had been clever enough to drop his sock or something for a clue...

She couldn't hear Reg, or the roulette wheel Zizzy spoke of, but she did hear what sounded like a conversation over holo coming from her right.

"... always a pleasure doin' business with you, guv. Ogon Trade Company always pays well," a male voice with a worker's accent said.
"And you will have a new shipment ready to go out by tomorrow night?" another more refined voice spoke, with a hint of static to its sound indicating it must be the caller.
"Aye. Got in a last few stragglers this mornin', some of 'em pretty feisty too, but that ain't me problem once they're on their way, eh?"
"Indeed not." A pause. "Money will be transferred on delivery, following our usual protocol. Now, if you'll excuse me, it's in the middle of the night here. Goodbye."

And then the conversation ended.

Oh shit. Kriffing slavers? Zanja was suddenly glad she'd been the one to sneak back here instead of Mir. The furball would probably be Byron-ing like crazy right now if he'd heard that.

Well, she knew there was somebody--somebody potentially alert and hostile--off to her right. Might as well check leftward first. Keeping her steps as soft as possible while moving casually--no good looking conspicuously sneaky when she couldn't avoid that camera entirely--she moved down the passage in the opposite direction from the overheard holo-call.

Tip-toeing down the hall to the left, she could hear some voices talking, albeit in a different tone and setting than the other side. She could even smell the deathsticks through the door and it was highly likely the stench had seeped into the walls over the years. The conversation on this side seemed to be more around who owed who how much money from this game, and whose turn it was to take over the shift for them in a few hours.

That was strange, Silas stopped in front of the machine and decided to put a couple credits in it. It couldn't hurt after all. He really didn't expect to win, but the feeling interested him, and he rather wanted to explore it. Though he'd also need to ask the masters about it when he got home.

Euchh... Zanja breathed out carefully so as not to cough and ghosted up toward the door. If it was open, she'd pe-ee-ek ever so casually around it; if closed, she'd listen a little bit longer and decide whether to chance opening it.

The door was not open. The conversation continued on, some of them joking about how they'd heard one of the rookies out on a job for the boss had gotten himself arressted for attempted mugging. Lucky him was sitting in a Security Force-cell now, and wasn't being strung up for his failure by the boss.

"Heard someone smashed in his face too. Now he's twice as ugly."

There was a big round of laughter.

Meanwhile, Silas had found himself a pazaak-game machine, where he could play against a computer for profit.

OOC: Cool (Presence) to play a successful game or Computers (Intellect) to count/figure out the computer's algorithm. Play against Average with one Setback because the game is rigged. If successful, it's 1-1 payoff (so if you put in 5 credits you get 10 back), with each advantage increasing your win by 10% while each threat lowers it by 10%. A Triumph is a jackpot - it's always a win, and you increase your winning by 50%.

Zanja did some quick mental calculations. These chuff-suckers might be on duty, but they clearly weren't on high alert. She could chance a quick look in there, and if they had any objections, she'd use her 'just looking for the refresher' line. Or some other bluff, if a better one came to her in the moment.

She positioned herself to one side of the door, so she wouldn't be instantly visible when it opened, and hit the control panel to open it. Unless it was locked, of course.

The door was not locked, and opened to Zanja's nudgings... inside, she could quickly see a mostly dimly lit room, except for the large table and couch in the middle where there seemed to be games to be played. There was a jukebox there too but it was currently not playing any music, and she could see a few screens over in the corner that were clearly the security cameras, and she could see a few scenes from the cantina.

There was another door leading further into the complex that was locked, and seemed to have a security panel that would require either some skullduggery or a keycard.

Zanja lurked her way around the edge of the door, hoping to escape notice entirely. Alas, that was not quite what she achieved. It was hard to walk through a doorway you'd just opened without being spotted, after all. Or so she told herself when the first set of eyes turned her way.

I belong here. No big deal, she repeated mentally, trying to keep that conviction inflecting her body language. She strolled casually across the room toward the locked door, making the split-second decision to see how far she could 'innocently' get before being stopped. At the least, she might get a look at the control pad.

Her hands were tucked into her pockets, one of which contained her comlink.

Silas in the mean time was gambling away, his small bets adding up a respectable amount of winnings, at least for a kid. He'd notice the game was Rig, but so far the lucky machine hadn't bit him. Who knew how long it would be until that changed though.

Meanwhile (mewhile?) Mir was trying to look like he belonged to the place, sipping his watered drown barley shake as he looked around. He also kept an eye at the main door, just in case.

Faily wrote:"Always best to not spend your own money, yeah," he gave her a toothy grin. "Heya, Barkeep. Bring something for us and the lady!"

Barkeep responded by sighing and muttering something about useless kids these days. The Devoronian patted the seat on the couch, giving room for Zizzy to sit down.

"Sure, seeing as someone else is paying." She took the offered seat with a quip and a smile, continuing the distraction and hoping that Zanja was getting on okay.

"So what's new around here? Me and my gang, we're the Red Hawkbats. We figured there might be some work going." She shrugged. "Seemed like this'd be the best place to ask."

Zanja got a good look at the panel to the next door, seeing that it required a keycard of some sort to allow entry. No doubt that's where the Black Sun kept the important things locked up. The door seemed pretty solid too - probably durasteel.

"Hey, kid!" finally someone looked up enough from their current game to notice her. "Whatcha doin' here?!"

-----

Meanwhile, Zizzy got the others occupied. "Red Hawkbats, huh? Always some new gang popping up these days," he chuckled and the others laughed a bit too. "You kids hopin' to get some favors with the Black Sun by being all cute?"

Barkeep grumbled after smacking the noisy machine a few times to make it stop, and once it simmered down, he returned to his place at the bar. He had glasses to clean, and they weren't going to clean themselves.

From what Mir could see, the place seemed very quiet now, but it was easy to tell that it was a place that usually had a lot of activity in the later hours. Scorch-marks from blaster bolts on the walls, floors, and ceilings told him that this place could get pretty rough.

Mir, spying Zizzy in a pickle (?), moved to join her, nodding to the Mikkian as he did so. "Just looking around, nothing more good sir." the farghul smiled disarmingly. "Nothing more, nothing less."

Zizzy grinned at Mir and then back at the Devaronian. "See, we've got more skills than just being naturally freaking full of charm." She shrugged. "Everyone's gotta start somewhere, right?"

"Huh, me?" Zanja turned wide-eyed toward the gangsters, using the movement to steal a good look at the security monitors. She ignored the ones obviously showing the interior of the cantina where she'd just been, guessing there might be cams trained on other vantages as well... like a holding cell, maybe?

In her pocket, she toggled her com to silent and flicked open the audio pickup. Hopefully Farissa wouldn't be too confused by the sudden transmission of a seemingly random conversation, but Zanja had a plan!

"I was just lookin' for the refresher. Is it through here?" She gestured at the reinforced door and tried to project an air of low-level street tough, scrappy but with more horns than brains.

There did seem to be a holding cell of some sort that was being watched on one of the monitors. She wasn't sure if it was Reg, but the people in the brief view did seem to be on the smaller side, so they were probably younger than her.

"Eh.. no?" one gave her a ridiculous look. "Scram, kid. Ask Barkeep for the key to the refresher."
"It's on the other side of the hall, by the jukebox."

"Ugh, it's all the way over there? I really gotta go..." Zanja turned hastily and stumbled against a piece of furniture, surreptitiously letting her comlink roll out of her pocket. Taking advantage of the dim light, she kicked the comlink under the couch as she recovered her balance.

"Okay, I'm going. Thanks, guys. Have a good one!"

Feeling that the clock was ticking on her time back here, Zanja headed back for the main cantina floor.

If that roll is kosher (since dayflip has happened, after all), maybe we can use the Triumph to get some particularly handy intel on Zanja's improvised listening device before the operation D3. Otherwise consider it fluff for a really good fake-out. :D

OOC: Yeah, getting some good intel for Day 3 works fine. Overhearing with the commlink allows Farissa to hear when and where they are going to ship the kids. It's going to happen at night on Day 3, and they'll be taking the kids to the starport and put them on one of their ships.
