Jedi Academy

Coruscant was the city planet, its urban landscape stretching from one corner of the globe to the other. But within that, there were places where nature could be found.

The Jedi speeder landed just outside one such place. An expanse of jungle within the city, not far from the embassies.

The driver door opened. After a moment, with a grunt, Master Corvin stepped out. A few easy steps, marred only slightly by the hint of a limp, took him to the entrance. He took a deep breath, his expression peaceful.

Eir jumped down from the speeder, it was a bit further for her than everyone else, and tossed back the hood of her cloak. She still had some shopping to do before they left Coruscant, and she hoped that this outing would help her decide what was essential and what she could likely go without.

Taime hopped down behind her, trying to get used to the new environment. He hadn't spent a great deal of time with Master Corvin yet, but he seemed someone that would be good to know. His skill at the outdoors and in his lightsaber use was well known.

Ares was alongside them as well, silent for now as he jumped from the speeder, awaiting the knight's leadership. He looked around curiously. He wasn't aware that Coruscant had spots like this.

Still breathing deeply, Corvin walked over to one of the trees. His hand came up, to trace over the surface of it.

"It's for the Ithorians, mostly." He said suddenly, in his usual growl. Or perhaps it was a bit softer than usual. "They've got a jungle that covers the entire surface of the planet. Just like we've got plasteel." He trailed off, grimacing.

He looked back towards the group. "Reach out with your senses. Can you feel anything?"

Eir’s scalp tingled in an ASMR response to Corvin’s gravelly voice, and the girl blinked in embarrassment, hoping she wasn’t blushing. She tried to reach out her senses, but was too flustered, and now her face felt hot and she was almost certain she was turning red...

[D2 MM] Sense: 1eF 1 Dark Side

Ares extended his senses far and wide.... like, almost 15 centimeters!

"I sense... crickets. I think? Or rocks."

Corvin grunted. "Probably rocks. Not that there couldn't be crickets in here, but there's lots of things that can eat them, too."

He looked around with a gentle scowl. "If you can't sense anything, that's okay. It's almost too much, sometimes. Like walking from a cave into a sunbeam, this much life can almost be overwhelming."

He jerked his head sharply, towards a path. "Come on. We'll start slow. Keep reaching out as you walk along." His gravelly voice dropped lower, as he prepared to enter the wilds. He took the lead, setting a slow pace, his booted feet making no sound on the jungle floor.

"Wait, there's a jungle out here? Why is there a jungle? That's weird." O'vala followed along anyways, with her trademark reckless abandon.

"Isn't it just... Beautiful?" Zizzy took a deep breath of the air that finally smelled fresh. Her tendrils drifted contentedly, picking up the stirrings of life throughout the area.

"Hey look, a lizard... Oh, you scared it away Ares." She watched it run off.

Eir noticed Zizzy’s tendrils dancing gently, the pretty mikkian looked perfectly at home, like a nymph from a holonovel. Focus, Eir, she silently rebuked.

"Sorry Zizzy." Said the lumbering warrior giant, as he slowed down, following his master's path. "Can we expect a similar environment in our upcoming field trip knight Corvin?" He tried to lamely get some information.

Corvin snorted. "Sure. If you want to." It was a singularly unhelpful answer.

The trail went deeper into the jungle. There were a few electric lights along the path, providing illumination, although it was definitely darker now. Corvin grimaced at one of them. "Wish these weren't here. It's better if it's closer to the real thing." He growled.

"Keep your eyes open." He said, his voice still rough, but soft. "There's all kinds of life you can find here. Like that lizard. Speaking of things that would eat crickets."

Taime listened intently, trying to walk as softly as Master Corvin but mostly failing. Still, he could see the fascination. He wondered what Nagi had looked like when he was a baby. Maybe it was something like this.

Eir, mostly due to her size, was soft of step, though certainly not to the extent of Knight Corvin. She didn't want to believe that any part of the trials would involve dropping the group in the wilderness and seeing how well they made their way back. After all, the girl was fairly certain that she wasn't the only one who had no experience with orienteering and survival.

Non-emergency shelter, she pondered, that made it sound like they'd be roughing it, even if she disregarded Corvin's recommendation about being prepared for the worst. She sighed deeply and rolled her shoulders, speculation was getting her no where, and she was surrounded by immense trees whose roots formed twisted patterns and lichens lent everything an other-worldly green hue.

Corvin, too, was drawn to the tree. His athletic stride carried him to the base of it. He looked up, studying it.

"This is one of the oldest trees here." He rumbled. "Most of them were planted here, but some of them were transplanted from Ithor. This is one of those."

He looked back to the group. "We have power. Lots of it. But don't overlook the importance of things like this."

Intrigued, Eir placed her hand on the trunk and closed her eyes. A sudden sense of dread washed over her, sending a shiver down her spine. She snatched back her hand, wrapping her arms around herself, inexplicable cold.

Ares observed the lizard running along. He tried to extend his senses, but still nothing.

"Is this place deserted? Feels so strange to see no one here."

Corvin shot Ares a look. "Depends what you mean by deserted. But that's not the word I'd use for a place as full of life as this." Growl had increased by at least ten percent.

He turned back to Eir, giving her a curious look. "What's wrong?" He asked, his voice quieter once more.

Eir shuddered and turned to Corvin, "I... I don't know. Can trees have memories? Like, if the tree remembered being removed from its home soil and being carried to a distant planet?" She looked up at the towering Knight, her pale eyes brimming with sorrow, distant memories of being transplanted from a distant planet echoing in her heart.
