The Jedi Code

#1 Postby Hatoful GM » Tue Aug 07, 2018 1:00 am

Throughout the existence of the Jedi Order, the Jedi Code has helped to codify rules for individual Jedi. The specifics of the code sometimes change; depending on the time period, Jedi have been forbidden from taking on more than one padawan, from killing unarmed opponents, or from marrying. While these rules varied, the basics of the code are almost always the same:

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.

While this is the most well-known version of the Jedi Code, the original version can be seen here:

Emotion, yet peace.
Ignorance, yet knowledge.
Passion, yet serenity.
Chaos, yet harmony.
Death, yet the Force.

Other examples of guidelines for Jedi behavior exist, such as the one that can be seen here:

Jedi are the guardians of peace in the galaxy.
Jedi use their powers to defend and protect, never to attack others.
Jedi respect all life, in any form.
Jedi serve others, rather than rule over them, for the good of the galaxy.
Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training.

One notes that these are all guidelines, and open to interpretation. This is intentional. While there are a small number of specific rules that Jedi are expected to obey, they are generally expected to let the Force guide them, along with the wisdom from the Jedi Code.

Exactly what this means for each individual Jedi depends on them.
